There are problems regarding the date that Edward Sherring went to Australia. Some records show this date as 1856, others 1858 and 1860 and there are many records between 1863 and 1882 giving his addresses in Australia. This does not fit in with the British census records of 1861 and 1871. This could almost indicate he was a constant traveller to Australia - was he working on-ship? More research needed.

He migrated to Australia and arrived in Sydney Australia on 8 April 1858 on the “Joshua”.

If census records are correct, he must have returned to the UK between 1858 and 1861.

In 1861 was living at Marston Magna 'Corner' with his parents and siblings Frederick, Ellen, Elizabeth and Arthur. He was 28 years old and a Cordwainer.

In 1871 he was living in Camel Street, Marston Magna with his parents and siblings Ann, Arthur and Ellen. He was 38 years old and a Boot and Shoe Maker.

In 1883/84 he is on the Electoral Roll living in Liverpool Road, Enfield, (UK ?).

Presumably he had a second 'go' at living in Australia, because he once again arrived in Australia aboard 'Joshua' 1885.

Between 1885 and his death he is living in Burwood, Australia.

48 William SHERRING (1809-1899) [1024]. Born 24 Jan 1809, Limington, Somerset. Marr Mary Ann FARMER 19 Nov 1832, Yeovil, Somerset. Died 7 Jan 1899, Marston Magna, Somerset.

In 1871 William was living in Camel Street, Marston Magna with his wife and children Ann, George, Arthur and Ellen. He was a Boot and Shoe Maker.

At the 1881 census William Sherring, his Wife and grandson Arthur Sherring - age 4 (possibly son of Arthur Sherring & Rachel Moore) and grandson Frank Tutton age 14 (son of Eleen), were living at Camel Street, Marston Magna. He was a Boot & Shoe Maker.
